Great Tooley of Ipswich

This database is a biographical record of Henry Tooley, a great businessman from Ipswich during the Tudor period. As stated by the author in the introduction, the purpose of this work is to present how an ordinary provincial merchant of sixteenth century England lived and worked, and in particular to discover how his business functioned within the economic framework of his time. As a result, historians are given an idea of what the economic life of the country was like and how the Tudor commercial enterprise functioned. This work would be of value to any researcher with ancestors from England during the Tudor period, as it could add an interesting historical perspective to the lives of the people who lived then.
