This database contains a collection of marriage records for Delaware from 1744-1912. It comprises a significant portion of early marriages for the state.

This collection was compiled by and is located at the Delaware Public Archives. It was created in part to provide marriage information for years prior to when the Office of Vital Statistics started collecting it. Records contained in the collection include:

  • Marriage bonds

  • Marriage certificates

  • Marriage returns

  • Governor’s authorization for marriage

  • Certification by Justices of the Peace for marriage

  • Church records

  • Family bibles

Information contained in this database includes:

  • Names of bride and groom

  • Ages of bride and groom

  • Marriage, bond, or other record date

  • Marriage place

Additional information may be available on the original record depending on the record type. For example, marriage bonds may also list the names of bondsmen and the amount of the bond. Other records may include the names of witnesses, places of residence for the bride and groom, parents’ names, and more.
